On July 6, 1992, Manuel Arturo Machado was born in Miami, Florida. His mother, Rosa Machado, his paternal grandpa, Francisco Nunez, and his uncle, Geovanny Brito, all nurtured him. He has Dominican ancestry.

Though they are not genetic relatives, Machado and former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Albert Almora believe themselves to be cousins because they both grew up in Hialeah together.

Machado committed to enrolling at Florida International University and went to Brito Miami Private School in Miami. He was a lifelong Miami Marlins supporter.


The Baltimore Orioles selected Machado with the third overall choice in the 2010 MLB Draught. At the age of 20, he made his MLB debut on August 9, 2012.

In 2013, Machado, who rose to prominence as one of baseball’s top young players, was selected to his first All-Star squad. Additionally, in 2013, he received the American League Gold Glove Award for third basemen.

Machado was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade in 2015. In 2017, he assisted the Dodgers in making it to the World Series, where they were defeated by the Houston Astros in seven games.
